Gwen was the first to pluck up the courage to peer over the edge of the crater, closely followed by Chris and Martha, their faces identical mixes of terror, and intense curiosity.

“It’s a bit small don’t you think?” Gwen whispered, picking clumps of mud out of her hair, “Barely even a ship really.”

“Maybe they’re just really small aliens,” Chris whispered back, tapping away at the machine in his hands, a small grin on his face, “And why are we whispering?”

Gwen scowled, getting to her feet to get a proper look, “Just get on with the bloody readings.”

Chris did a quick scan, the grin still there, “No detectable radiation, or harmful gases in the area,” He reported, flicking through the results, “Slight electro magnetic charge, but weirdly enough, not coming from the ship,” He frowned slightly, “Seems to be coming from the one source of heat on board. Judging from this, I’d say a creature pretty similar to humans,” He flashed another grin at the women, “It’s a shame really, I was rather looking forward to a tussle with a couple of hundred tiny aliens.”

Martha hid her smile, coming to stand between her two comrades “So it’s safe for us to have a poke around?”

“Seems to be,” Chris shrugged, “As long as the poking isn’t too vigorous.”

The team laughed, taking the edge off the situation for a moment. Cautiously, they lowered themselves into the crater. For such a small ship, it had left quite an impact on the Welsh countryside.

As they neared the ship, they began to move more slowly, guns drawn, in a defensive formation, “Are you sure it’s alive, Chris?” Gwen asked, after neither seeing nor hearing any signs of life from within.

“Definitely, but from the state the ship, I’d say whatever it is won’t be in the best condition.”

The landing had really taken its toll on the little space craft. The crater was littered with chunks of metal, stripped from the ship upon collision with the Earth. Smoke rose from the ship itself and wires and pipes jutted crudely out from slashes in the metal.

Gwen led her team around the ruined, dome like, space craft until they located a small panel on one side. Her eyes flitted from her team-mates’ faces to the little door. They nodded in silent encouragement. She stretched out her hand, reaching for the submarine like cog on the door. She snapped her hand back, as her skin connected briefly with the blisteringly hot metal.

Heart pounding in her ears, Gwen pulled off her jacket and wrapped it round her hand. The metal whined and protested as she tugged at the cog, but eventually the door swung open. She aimed her gun into the ship and gasped, her eyes going wide.

Martha and Chris, startled by her gasp, peered over her shoulders. Their mouths fell open in surprise and shock.

“But…” Martha started, lowering her gun, “But that’s….”

Creatures Of The Night

I'm sick, and can't concentrate on Hope atm, so i decided to post this poem a wrote a while back. It's kinda depressing xD

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How many times will a creature of the night walk among the living?
To feed of living flesh and gorge on salty blood,
To prey on the children of mortals.
I shall walk among them,
Among the living dead.
Forever, eternity and more,
Until taken by stake, illness or a knife in my hand.
Do not resist,
Accept our blood.
Become a creature of the night.
what do we think??
Part 4
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It started as just a low buzzing that seemed to float down towards them.

The noise increased in volume and pitch, and combined with the roar of an engine, erratic and stuttering.

The light was brighter now, far too bright, like another sun, burning away in the black of night.

The team clung together, guns drawn, out of their depth.

The ship rocketed towards them, the sky filling with intense, white hot light.

The whine of the engine grew louder and louder.

Gwen, Martha and Chris fell to the floor, blinded and deafened.

And then, just as it seemed to get too much, just as the light threatened to burn out their eyes, and the noise burst their eardrums, there came an almighty crash.

A surge of light.

Shockwaves rippling out through the field.

Dirt and metal and dust.

Silence.

Part 3

“Here we go,” Chris pulled himself out of the SUV where Torchwood Three had been hiding from the mercies of the Welsh weather, brushing biscuit crumbs off his coat, “Should be arriving any moment now,” He wandered a little way into the field, eyes flickering from the little monitor in his hands to squinting up through the rain, “Somewhere over there,” He waved vaguely over to the left.

             “How much time have we got?” Martha called, clutching onto Gwen as the mud threatened to pull her under.

            “Seconds,” Chris murmured, pulling binoculars, alien binoculars obviously, out of his bag, “If it wasn’t for the bloody clouds, we’d be able to see it coming.”

            Gwen pulled out her gun, her eye brows knitted together in worry. She hated not knowing what to expect. Especially being one man down. Of course, when you work for Torchwood, there’s never going to be a good time to go on your honey moon, and Gwen had banned anyone from calling Louis while she was on hers; a decision she rather regretted now, “Wha-”

            “Look!” Chris cried, cutting Gwen off, “I think I see it,” He took the binoculars away from his eyes and peered up searchingly at the night sky. He pointed upwards, “There. That speck of light. It matches up with the coordinates of the ship,” He frowned, glancing at his tracker again, “That’s weird, it says the ship’s still above the clouds. We shouldn’t be able to see it…”

            “What does that mean?” Martha asked, squinting up at the rapidly expanding speck of light.

            “Not sure. It’s most likely that an increase in speed has caused the entrance into our atmosphere to affect the ship more drastically and so we can see the ship, even through the clouds,” He glanced down at his co-workers, “Effectively, what we’re seeing is the atmosphere destroying the ship before it even arrives.”

            The women gasped, gazing up at the ship, “What can we do?” Martha half whispered.

            “Nothing,” Chris sighed, “Nothing at all. Just hope that it arrives in more or less one piece,” He gazed up at the ship again, the light almost too bright now, “That’s all it comes down to in the end. Hope.”

Part 2

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            She looks awful. She can’t be getting enough sleep. Martha sighed. I just wish there was something I could do. Anything, She tucked her hair behind her ears and sneaked a quick glance at her team-mate.
            Really, it was out of pity for Gwen that Martha joined Torchwood. She was sitting in her flat, missing Jack, and suddenly it twigged with her that if she was missing Jack, it had to be a million times worse for Gwen. She was alone, completely alone. Martha had to do something about it. She’d quit her job at Unit and hunted around for Gwen’s phone number.
            “You alright?” She asked, taking in Gwen’s tight features, grey looking skin and dull eyes.
            “I’m fine,” She flashed Martha a quick smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “Honestly,” She focused again on the winding road.
            Yeah right.
            An uncomfortable silence filled the SUV. Chris shifted uncomfortably on the backseat.
            We’ve worked together for a year now, and we still aren’t a proper team, Martha sighed, We need you Jack. We really do.
            It had been worse in the beginning; Gwen would hardly talk to them. She barely even spoke to Rhys. It had gotten slightly better, Martha had noticed, when Gwen gave birth. The pregnancy hormones hadn’t been doing anyone any favours.
            “We’d better hurry up. This says the first ship will arrive in about twenty minutes,” Chris leaned forward from the backseat, peering through the windscreen and the heavy rain, “There!” He pointed down a rather beaten old track.
            Gwen turned the SUV obediently down the winding country lane. The estimated landing site was a field at the end of the long track, empty and neglected, with hedges overgrown with brambles and thistles littering the grass.
            “Ten minutes,” Chris informed them, slamming the door of the SUV and squinting up through the rain, “Bloody welsh weather; you can’t see a freaking thing.” The girls followed after him, huddling up against the rain and bitterly cold wind. He was tall and well built for someone of his age; Martha and Gwen were grateful for his warmth.
            Martha, always prepared, produced a flask of tea - not coffee, never coffee – seemingly from nowhere and they stood, ankle deep in mud, sipping from plastic cups.
            “Nothing left to do now but wait,” Martha sighed, gazing up at the sky and shivering against the freezing wind, “How big is this thing anyway, hadn’t we better get out of the way?”
            Chris shook his head, eyes still trained on the device in his hands, “It’s only small, barely even a ship really. And this thing says it’s going to land down the other end of this field. Even at the speed it’s currently travelling at, there’s no way it’s going to do us any harm… I think.”
Prologue
Part 1
When Martha Jones entered the Torchwood Hub, Gwen felt herself relax, if only slightly. Martha was great. She was someone from the old days. Someone who remembered all the people Gwen had lost; Owen and Tosh, Ianto and Jack, someone to share the responsibility, someone to let Gwen know that she’s not alone. Obviously she had Chris as well, but he was little more that a child, only nineteen years old. She’d thanked her lucky stars the day Martha called her up, asking about Torchwood. She was smart and efficient, not to mention an excellent doctor.
“What have we got then?” Martha asked, pulling up a chair at Chris’ work station.
“Alien spaceship, we think. It’s sending out distress calls.” Gwen replied, grabbing another chair.
“Fallen through the Rift?”
“No, we traced the energy trail, it’s come from somewhere far off. Can’t tell where, our satellites and sensors don’t reach far enough,” Gwen peered over Chris’ shoulder, studying his work, “Any idea when and where it’s going to land?”
“Yeah, I think so. Thank god. If this is right, it’s headed for a load of farmland just north of the M4.”
“When?”
“In about three hours. Not sure though, could be less.”
Martha stood up, taking charge. She could always tell if Gwen was having a bad day. “Right, patch the co-ordinates through to the SUV,” Chris nodded, “We need to be there as soon as possible, just in case,”
“Done,” Chris announced, “Want me to stay here, keep an eye on the ship and let you know how long you’ve got?”
“Yeah okay,” Gwen said, gathering her bag and tossing a gun to Martha, “Just-” She was cut off by a loud alarm, and warning signs flashing on the monitors, “Christ, what was that?”
Chris frowned and tapped at his keyboard for a moment. The warnings disappeared and where replaced by a diagram of the atmosphere. The ship they had discovered was not alone. “Shit.”
“Another one,” Martha exclaimed, “The beginnings of a fleet maybe?”
Chris shook his head “The dimensions are too different. Either it’s one hell of a coincidence, or it’s a chase.”
Gwen bit her lip “If it’s a chase, then it could turn into a fight, with us in the middle. How far behind is the other ship?”
“Not far, only about half an hour. But it might catch up.”
“Right, well I want all of us there, just in case it gets ugly and we need to control the situation.” Chris nodded, unplugging a hand held device from his monitor.
“I can track the ships from this, but not as accurately. It’ll have to do.”
“Right then, let’s go,” Martha smiled at Gwen as they armed themselves and headed outside.
